The SG-1 Fuse is a software platform developed by Helsing, an AI-driven defence technology company based in Europe. Introduced in 2022, the system functions as a real-time sensor fusion and targeting platform designed to integrate multi-domain battlefield data. Its primary role is to accelerate operator decision-making by processing diverse intelligence streams into a cohesive operational picture. The software is characterized by its ability to achieve sub-second latency and its capacity for edge deployment, allowing it to operate effectively in contested environments where connectivity may be limited.
Helsing markets the SG-1 Fuse as a solution for faster, more accurate targeting by fusing data from multiple sources. The platform is designed to handle complex data modalities, including synthetic aperture radar (SAR), electro-optical (EO), and radio frequency (RF) inputs. By integrating these disparate data types, the software aims to provide a persistent and reliable intelligence, surveillance, and targeting (IST) layer for military operators. The system’s architecture supports on-board AI algorithms for data analysis, enabling it to process information directly at the edge rather than relying solely on centralized cloud computing. This approach is intended to reduce the time between sensor detection and weapon release, a critical factor in modern high-intensity conflict.
The SG-1 Fuse has been fielded by Ukrainian forces, where it has seen combat use. Helsing has stated that its data analysis algorithms, including those integrated into the SG-1 suite, are actively used in Ukraine to support targeting operations. The company emphasizes that space-based intelligence provides a reliable, all-weather source for persistent surveillance, a capability that the SG-1 Fuse leverages by fusing satellite data with other battlefield inputs. German military entities have also been identified as operators of the system, reflecting Helsing’s broader strategy to supply AI-driven software to European militaries. The company’s involvement in Ukraine has been a central part of its public profile, with leadership citing the conflict as proof of the system’s effectiveness in real-world conditions.
Helsing continues to expand the capabilities of its SG-1 platform through partnerships and technological integration. In a significant development, Helsing teamed up with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Hensoldt to develop a sovereign European space-based intelligence constellation. This collaboration aims to deploy a networked space infrastructure by 2029, combining Kongsberg’s satellite assets with Helsing’s AI software and Hensoldt’s sensor technologies. The SG-1 Fuse is positioned as a key component of this future architecture, capable of fusing data from the proposed satellite constellation with other battlefield sensors. This expansion underscores Helsing’s focus on creating self-reliant European defence capabilities, moving beyond standalone software solutions to integrated space-ground systems. The company’s recent funding rounds and establishment of new facilities, including a planned “Resilience Factory” in the United States, indicate a continued commitment to scaling its AI-driven defence offerings.
