Rebellion Iris is a software platform developed by the Washington, D.C.-based firm Rebellion Defense, designed to provide multi-domain target recognition, tracking, and predictive analytics for military operations. Introduced to the market in 2022, the system addresses the challenge of exponential increases in sensor data volume and threat complexity faced by the United States and its allies in near-peer competition scenarios. The platform functions as a command and control tool, aiming to deliver comprehensive, low-latency awareness of the battlespace to warfighters in Operations Centers and forward-deployed locations.
The software operates by fusing data from multi-modal sensors across various platforms to enable machine-speed understanding of the environment. It is designed to be platform-agnostic, allowing integration with the latest aerospace capabilities and deployment in contested, denied, degraded, intermittent, or limited (DDIL) environments. A core component of the system is its “On Platform Skills” module, which delivers AI-powered sensor fusion and tracking to inform real-time autonomous threat identification and maneuver decisions. This module processes millions of streaming detections to reduce the human burden of battlespace interpretation, providing outputs that can be consumed by mission autonomy systems and other resource management tools. These outputs allow for software-defined recommendations, such as initiating actions to capture new sensor data, avoid targets, or reposition for new objectives.
To support the development and refinement of these AI capabilities, Rebellion Iris includes a “Mission Simulation” feature. This module runs multi-domain trials to fine-tune sensor skills, fusion algorithms, and mission autonomy models. The system utilizes feedback loops, both human-driven and autonomous, to aid in the continuous improvement of mission planning and execution. This approach allows for the integration of first- or third-party models into the simulation environment, facilitating the testing of AI-enabled capabilities under high degrees of statistical confidence.
The platform also features a “Continuous Model Improvement” mechanism designed to address the latency often associated with updating AI models in the field. Unlike traditional software pipelines that may take months or years to publish updates, Iris aims to enable rapid retraining, retesting, and redeployment of mission simulation and sensor fusion models. This allows systems to react predictably in high-stakes battlespaces by gathering information needed to understand both own capabilities and adversary activity. The software is built by a team combining technologists with commercial AI product experience and national security insiders, targeting the specific needs of national security and defense missions.
Rebellion Iris is primarily associated with the United States military, serving as a tool for enhanced situational awareness and decision-making. While the company has also developed other products such as Nova, Iris remains a central offering for its focus on tactical threat awareness. The system represents an effort to bridge the gap between raw sensor data and actionable intelligence, enabling faster and more accurate responses to evolving threats in complex operational environments.
