ICEYE Analytics is a software platform developed by the Finnish satellite operator ICEYE that applies artificial intelligence to Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery for object detection, change detection, and damage assessment. Introduced in 2021, the system is designed to automate the classification of targets and the scoring of damage from satellite data, delivering results via an API. The platform is layered on top of ICEYE’s constellation of SAR satellites, which provide high-resolution imagery capable of penetrating cloud cover and operating in darkness.
The software functions by processing SAR data to identify specific target types and assess environmental changes. Its capabilities include automated target-type classification, damage scoring, and flood extent mapping. The system is marketed as a tool for providing actionable intelligence to defense and intelligence customers, enabling rapid decision-making based on satellite-based situational awareness. The platform is part of ICEYE’s broader ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) offerings, which feed into NATO ISR cells and Ukrainian targeting operations.
ICEYE, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, owns and operates the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. The company has launched 44 satellites since 2018 and plans to launch more than 20 new satellites annually through 2026. The satellites provide 25 cm high-resolution imagery with scene sizes up to 84,000 km² and hourly revisit rates for points around the globe. ICEYE Analytics is used by military and government entities for sovereign missions, including border site activity monitoring, port and maritime domain awareness, and natural disaster response such as hurricane, flood, and wildfire assessment.
In February 2025, ICEYE announced a partnership with SATIM, a Polish AI technology company specializing in Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) on SAR imagery. The collaboration aims to combine ICEYE’s satellite imagery with SATIM’s AI-powered analytics to create new products for the prompt, high-confidence detection and classification of vessels, aircraft, and land vehicles. Following an initial pilot phase, the partners plan to release a series of generally available products in 2025. This partnership underscores the growing integration of AI-driven analytics with satellite ISR capabilities in modern warfare.
ICEYE Analytics is combat-tested, with its imagery and analytics being utilized in the conflict in Ukraine. The system supports Ukrainian forces by providing persistent monitoring and change detection capabilities, which are critical for identifying Russian military movements and assessing damage to infrastructure. The platform’s ability to operate in all weather conditions and at night makes it a valuable asset in environments where optical satellites are ineffective. As ICEYE expands its constellation and partnerships, the role of AI-powered SAR analytics in providing objective, near real-time intelligence is expected to grow.
