The HeviTrack-S is a gyro-stabilised electro-optical targeting system developed by Hevi Optronics, an Estonian company based in Tallinn. Introduced in 2023, the system is designed as a medium-range reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA) payload for armoured vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), patrol vehicles, and stationary installations. It serves as a rugged solution for day and night observation, integrating multiple sensor modalities into a compact, field-swappable module.

The system’s core capability lies in its multi-sensor gimbal, which combines a 4K electro-optical (EO) camera with a short-wave infrared (MWIR) thermal imager. An optional laser rangefinder can be added to the configuration. The sensor module is engineered for durability in adverse weather, featuring optional de-icing heaters and cleaning systems to maintain optical clarity. Onboard, a real-time video processor handles image enhancement, scene steering, and image fusion, merging daylight and infrared feeds into a single video stream. This processing unit also provides image stabilization and automated target tracking, allowing operators to maintain focus on moving targets despite platform vibration or movement. The system utilizes a fully digital interface to facilitate cost-effective integration across various military platforms.

A variant known as the HeviTrack-S SX extends the system’s range with an integrated high-speed 40x optical zoom lens. This version is optimized for long-range surveillance of critical infrastructure, borders, and maritime areas. It typically employs a Full HD sensor and can be equipped with dual-antenna RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) positioning to provide precise target geolocation when paired with the laser rangefinder. Like the standard model, the SX variant includes image stabilization and tracking capabilities.

Estonia is the primary documented operator of the HeviTrack-S. The system has been integrated into the country’s defence infrastructure, likely supporting border security and armoured vehicle operations. As a product of the Estonian defence industry, it reflects the broader European trend toward developing indigenous, ruggedized sensor solutions for modern warfare. The system competes in the market for tactical UAV and ground vehicle payloads, offering a balance of high-resolution imaging and automated tracking features. Hevi Optronics markets the HeviTrack-S as part of a broader family of electro-optical systems, emphasizing its modularity and adaptability for different operational requirements.
