Geran-5 UAV

Jammer-proof satellite navigation system "Kometa-M12"

Завадозахищена супутникова навігаційна система "Комета-М12"

VNIIR-PROGRESS JSCRussian Federation

Russia’s anti-jam satellite navigation receiver, made by VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary. Its antenna is a controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA): twelve antenna elements on one board, whose signals the receiver combines so that it can turn its blind spots towards a jammer and keep the satellites. The same Kometa family turns up in Geran-2 drones, UMPK glide bombs and, as the Kometa R8, in the Iskander-M. Ukraine has struck VNIIR-Progress itself.

Borscht (Tracker V3) Tracker with 3G/LTE modems and a Raspberry Pi microcomputer

Трекер Борщ (Tracker V3) з 3G/LTE модемами та мікрокомп'ютером Raspberry Pi

A telemetry tracker that reports where the drone is over mobile networks. HUR’s name for it is “Borscht”. The photo shows what it is built from: a Raspberry Pi single-board computer, two USB 3G/LTE modems with their covers off and SIM slots visible, and a hand-wired interface board with an RF connector and an XT30 power plug. Earlier Gerans carried similar trackers with Ukrainian and Russian SIM cards; this one uses the external 3G/LTE antennas listed below. See also how a mesh relay is claimed to steer it.

The flight computer, in a cast aluminium box with cooling slots. HUR documents one board inside it, the satellite navigation receiver board, listed below with its chips: a Texas Instruments TMS320F28335 real-time processor, a CAN bus transceiver that links it to the other units, a USB-to-serial bridge, an RF power divider and the clock that sets its timing. The part-number and serial-number stickers on the underside were scraped off before the drone was built into the airframe.

Power distribution unit (PDU)

Блок розподілу потужності (PDU)

Distributes battery power to the drone’s systems. The finned aluminium case took a shrapnel hit; opened up, it holds a board built around a second TMS320F28335 processor, power inductors and capacitors, and a harness of white wires to two round military-style connectors on the end panel. Its clock carries a 2024 date code.

Launch engine

Стартовий двигун

A separate engine that gets the drone off the launch rail, listed by HUR without a type. Launch footage shown by Russia in May 2026 has the drone leaving a fixed rail of about 80 m. No photo has been published.

Inertial navigation system MINSOO V3

інерціальна навігаційна система MINSOO V3

The inertial navigation system: accelerometers and gyroscopes that measure every movement, so the drone knows where it is when the satellite signal is jammed. HUR calls it “probably of the SADRA MINSO type”. The board sits in a cast housing, badly fouled by the crash; a large processor and a metal-can sensor module are visible.

The main engine: a small Chinese turbojet giving about 200 kgf (1,960 N) of thrust, made by Telefly Telecommunications Equipment. The photo shows the intake on the left, the combustion section and the nozzle on the right, with the mounting rails underneath; HUR records serial number 0000000060. The Kyiv Independent put the engine at about $40,000 of the drone’s estimated $115,000 cost. The first Geran-5s carried it in a pod above the fuselage; later ones reportedly have it inside.

Modem Mesh Network XK-F358

Модем Mesh Network XK-F358

Xingkay TechPeople's Republic of China

A Chinese mesh radio made by Shenzhen Xingkai Technology (Xingkay Tech): every drone carrying one can pass data and video on to the next, so an operator can reach a drone far beyond direct radio range. The vendor lists 2×10 W output, 1.25–20 MHz channels, multi-hop links and AES encryption; the frequency band used on Gerans has not been published. The front panel shows the antenna connectors, LINK and RSSI lights, a data connector, warnings not to power it without antennas, and a handwritten marking. HUR puts its price at about $8,100. This is the part at the centre of how a mesh relay is claimed to steer it.
