AIRFENCE COP is a software component of the AIRFENCE counter-UAS ecosystem developed by Sensofusion, a Finnish defense technology firm headquartered in Vantaa. Introduced in 2020, the system functions as a networked common operating picture, designed to fuse data from multiple AIRFENCE sensor nodes into a single, web-based situational awareness dashboard. While the broader AIRFENCE system includes passive radio frequency (RF) detection hardware and kinetic or electronic countermeasures, AIRFENCE COP specifically addresses the command and control layer, providing operators with real-time tracking, alert management, and forensic track history.
The software aggregates inputs from the company’s passive RF sensors, which detect the communications links between drones and their pilots rather than relying on radar or acoustic signatures. By centralizing this data, AIRFENCE COP allows military and law enforcement units to visualize the location of unauthorized drones and their operators across a secured perimeter. The platform supports REST API integration, enabling it to interface with existing security infrastructure. Sensofusion states that the system is capable of detecting autonomous and pre-programmed drones, as well as those used for unauthorized surveillance or attacks on critical infrastructure. The software’s primary utility lies in its ability to provide a shared operational view for diverse users, ranging from presidential guards protecting moving VIPs to security teams at large public events.
Sensofusion has marketed the AIRFENCE system to governmental customers across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia since 2016. Finland is listed as a primary operator of the system. The company claims the technology has been tested by various state entities, including military units, police forces, maritime agencies, and secret services. In promotional materials, Sensofusion cites specific operational successes, such as intercepting over 70 drone attacks on the Israeli border and detaining associated pilots, although these claims are attributed directly to the manufacturer and have not been independently corroborated by third-party defense analysts or open-source intelligence reports. The system is not currently reported to be in active combat zones, and there is no verified evidence of its deployment in high-intensity conflict environments similar to those in Ukraine or the Middle East.
The AIRFENCE suite is positioned as a comprehensive solution for both static infrastructure protection and mobile security details. The software component, AIRFENCE COP, serves as the analytical core, translating raw sensor data into actionable intelligence for operators. By focusing on passive detection, the system aims to remain undetectable to drone operators while providing detailed forensic data on past events. Sensofusion continues to develop the platform for use in high-security environments where traditional detection methods may be insufficient or prone to interference. The company maintains that its technology is suitable for a wide range of threats, from commercial drones used for mapping to more sophisticated autonomous systems designed for hostile purposes.
