Applied Intuition Government

Applied Intuition Government is the defence arm of Silicon Valley autonomy-software company Applied Intuition , launched in 2023 to bring the firm’s automotive-grade simulation and validation stack into US military programmes across ground, air and maritime domains. It is a tooling layer rather than a delivered autonomy stack — programme offices and defence primes use it to build, simulate and validate their own vehicle and mission software, borrowing the rapid-iteration loop that civilian autonomous-vehicle developers have relied on for a decade.

The suite is built on Simian, the company’s driving-simulation environment, and Basis, its calibration and validation toolchain — both originally developed for automotive OEMs and adapted for defence use. Simian generates synthetic sensor data across LiDAR, radar, camera and IMU streams, letting operators exercise perception and planning code against large scenario libraries without burning hours on live ranges. Basis handles model training, coverage analysis and regression testing. The government edition runs in both unclassified and classified enclaves, supports military-specific sensors and mission systems, and, per the company, integrates with the platform-specific autonomy code its customers write on top.

The United States is the anchor customer. Applied Intuition has publicised work with the US Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center supporting the Robotic Combat Vehicle programme, and separately with the US Marine Corps and US Air Force on ground and air autonomy simulation. In 2024 the company acquired EpiSci, a defence AI firm focused on autonomous tactical flight and electronic warfare, folding its Tactical AI Pilot behaviours into the government product line. That acquisition pushed Applied Intuition beyond ground vehicles and toolchain work into airborne autonomy relevant to the Collaborative Combat Aircraft effort and to Air Force experimentation with AI-piloted testbeds.

Development is continuous. Applied Intuition has publicly named work with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace on autonomous turret systems, and closed a Series F in early 2025 at a reported valuation above six billion dollars, capital the company has said will fund further defence expansion. The suite competes less with a named commercial rival than with the in-house autonomy tooling of the primes themselves; its distinguishing feature is a decade of civilian-scale simulation runtime carried into a classified environment, on the sensors and platforms that military programmes must qualify long before a robot rolls onto a battlefield.
