Zatoka bridge collapses after four-year campaign; shortest Romania–Ukraine supply route cut

Published

The Zatoka bridge in Odessa Oblast has collapsed following a final Iskander-M strike, ending a four-year Russian effort that had employed Iskanders, Kh-59MK2, FAB glide bombs, Gerani and USVs without success. Russian engineering analysis explains the repeated failures: the steel truss design dissipated blast energy across the span rather than transferring it to the supports; success required precision targeting of the piers, which only recently became achievable. The bridge carried the shortest military logistics corridor from Romania to southern Ukraine; its loss forces traffic onto longer and more exposed alternative routes.
