US Navy orders 30 medium unmanned surface vessels in $1.2B MUSV programme

Published

The US Navy is procuring 30 combat-capable unmanned surface vessels under the Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel programme at roughly $40M each, with three contractors each delivering ten ships by end of 2027. One vessel shown is Saronic’s Marauder: a 54-metre, 150-tonne craft capable of 24 knots with a 5,400-nautical-mile range designed for logistics, reconnaissance and defensive operations. Russian commentary contrasts the large-vessel strategy with the small-cheap-swarm approach, arguing that a vessel this size remains a viable Oniks target in a way a small inflatable never would.
