US MQ-9 losses reach 45 — ~25% of pre-war fleet — as CCA replacements enter testing

Published · updated

The Washington Post, cited by a Ukrainian drone channel, reports total US MQ-9 Reaper losses in the Iran conflict have reached 45 airframes, roughly 25% of the pre-war inventory. Not all were combat attrition: a portion were lost to communications disruption, likely jamming or link severing, rather than direct intercept. A May 2026 Congressional report had logged 24 losses through the first 40 days of Operation Epic Fury; the additional 21 accumulated over four subsequent months of lower-intensity operations. YFQ-44A and YFQ-42A are now in active testing under the Collaborative Combat Aircraft programme as next-generation Reaper successors.
