US military covertly expands Taura airbase in Ecuador for strike-drone deployment

Russian analysts at Rybar report US Marines are expanding Taura airbase near Guayaquil, Ecuador without formal domestic authorisation, extending the runway for heavy transport aircraft, installing radars and constructing hangars. The site is assessed as preparation for deploying strike drones and establishing surveillance over Pacific sea lanes, effectively restoring the US basing position at Manta that was lost in 2009.
