US LUCAS strike drones planned for Shield AI Hivemind swarm-autonomy integration

Published

Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomous coordination system is being planned for integration with the LUCAS low-cost disposable strike drone, enabling multiple aircraft to coordinate manoeuvres, reroute based on situational awareness and distribute tasks under operator supervision. Separately, Shield AI and Honeywell Aerospace demonstrated two-aircraft autonomous handoff on 13 October — one airframe tracking a target and passing coordinates to a second for engagement — though this specific test did not use LUCAS. The LUCAS drone is conceptually comparable to the Iranian Shahed and Russian Geran families.
