US intelligence on Russian radar positions enabled Ukrainian drone refinery campaign

Published

A Washington Post investigation, cited by Russian milblogger Colonel Cassad, concludes that US intelligence data identifying Russian air-defence radar and PVO positions was instrumental in planning Ukrainian long-range drone strike routes to bypass detection — described by an anonymous European official as ‘decisive’. Between 1 April and 31 August 2026, Ukrainian drones struck at least two-thirds of the 36 major Russian oil refinery complexes tracked by S&P Global, with some facilities hit up to five times.
