Ukrainian ZIRKA interceptor upgraded to engage jet-powered drones; takes Geran-5 at 3,500 m

Ukraine’s ZIRKA drone-interceptor has been modified to engage high-speed jet-powered targets. A crew from the ‘Retro’ unit, Darknode battalion, 412th Nemesis Brigade, intercepted a Russian Geran-5 at approximately 400 km/h and 3,500 m altitude. The upgrade is designed to reduce reliance on surface-to-air missiles for interceptions of reactive UAVs, which are harder to engage with conventional FPV interceptors.
