Ukrainian Molniya-clone recovered in Crimea used balloon for low-signature delivery

Published

A Russian technical channel published a teardown of a captured Ukrainian drone described as a Molniya clone, recovered in Crimea. The system used Starlink for command-and-control. Eyewitnesses cited by the channel claim the drone was carried aloft by a balloon before being engaged and shot down — a method that would suppress acoustic and radar signature during ingress. Build quality was assessed as rudimentary, including a plywood tail section mounted on standard furniture hinges.
