Ukrainian HiSKY SmartLight Sirius satellite terminal recovered from strike drone

Published

Russian sources report recovering an Israeli-designed HiSKY SmartLight Sirius 16x16 satellite communications terminal from a downed Ukrainian long-range strike UAV. The terminal — built by a company whose director previously led Mossad, manufactured in Italy — can connect to multiple satellite constellations and carries no geographic restrictions over Russian territory, unlike Starlink. Russian technical analysis notes the terminals could link to OneWeb LEO satellites (1,200 km altitude) or Eutelsat GEO constellations, though GEO latency at 36,000 km makes real-time drone control difficult. The find indicates Ukrainian efforts to diversify beyond Starlink for deep-strike UAV guidance.
