Ukrainian drones open Caspian front and strike Yamal gas sites at ~3,000 km

Published

Ukrainian SBS forces struck the Makhachkala commercial seaport in Dagestan on the night of 10 September — Russia’s only non-freezing deep-water Caspian port, a key node on the Iran–Russia overland corridor used to circumvent sanctions, and adjacent to the Caspian Flotilla base. In a separate operation from the same reporting period, Ukrainian UAVs reached gas-processing infrastructure in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district — estimated at approximately 3,000 km from the Ukrainian border — with strikes reported near Novy Urengoy and Purovsky and a fire near the Urengoiskaya compressor station. ISW assessed the Yamal operation as evidence of gaps in Russian rear-area air defence.
