Ukrainian drone enters Romanian airspace for 20 minutes; Ukraine shoots it down on exit

Published 3 August 2026

Romania’s Defence Ministry reported that a Ukrainian drone penetrated Romanian airspace and remained there for approximately 20 minutes before turning back toward Ukraine, where Ukrainian forces subsequently shot it down. Romania scrambled two F-16s from Borcha airbase to monitor the intrusion. Reported by Colonel Cassad citing Romanian MoD, the incident appears to be the first publicly documented case of a Ukrainian drone crossing into Romanian territory rather than a Russian one.
