Ukrainian drone development channels document active use of DroneBridge — open-source firmware converting cheap ESP32-S3 modules into encrypted MAVLink/MSP/LTM telemetry bridges. Configured with ArduPilot on Pixhawk 6C hardware, the system achieves up to 1 km range via ESP-NOW LR with external antennas, weighs under 8g and is managed through a web interface. The appeal is replacing expensive proprietary radio modems with commodity hardware while retaining AES-GCM-256 encrypted control links and compatibility with Mission Planner and QGroundControl.
