Ukraine uses cheap aerostats for deep ISR and Moscow airport disruption

Russian authorities reported intercepting small Ukrainian reconnaissance balloons over Yaroslavl, Tula and Moscow oblasts. Russian open-source analysts assessed that Ukraine is deploying aerostats specifically to force airport closures around Moscow — a cheaper disruption method than committing kamikaze strike drones, which can then be reserved for higher-value targets. Earlier Russian reporting had documented balloons used as delivery vehicles to float smaller drones deeper into Russian airspace.
