Ukraine mounts interceptor UAV launch systems on Mi-8 helicopters for airborne anti-drone role

Published

Ukrainian forces have integrated intercept-UAV launch systems on Mi-8 helicopters, enabling aerial anti-drone operations, according to a Russian engineering channel. The approach offers faster repositioning than ground-mobile intercept groups, longer time-on-target for pursuit engagements, and the ability to concentrate multiple helicopters against mass raids — mirroring fixed-wing air-to-air intercept doctrine. The same channel reports Russia is pursuing parallel concepts: Ka-52s fitted with modified ATGMs capable of engaging aerial targets, and tests of light aircraft as carrier platforms for interceptor drones.
