UK Kraken K3 Scout USVs confirmed in Black Sea operations; Chinese components found exfiltrating data

Published

The Times reports that Ukraine has used British Kraken Technology K3 Scout unmanned surface vessels against Russian Black Sea targets including an area near Sochi. The UK purchased 20 units, though the number transferred to Ukraine has not been confirmed. The K3 Scout carries a ~1,200 km range and a modular architecture supporting air-drone launch, reconnaissance payloads and EW suites; it was the first USV successfully deployed from an A400M transport aircraft in trials. Separately, Kraken disclosed in August that Chinese-origin components aboard the vessels were transmitting operational data back to China — a supply-chain breach relevant to any coalition operator using the platform.
