UK DragonFire laser weapon to integrate on Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer by 2027

The UK Ministry of Defence plans to fit the DragonFire high-energy laser weapon system aboard one of the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers in 2027, following successful demonstration firings in 2025. The programme carries more than £300 million in government investment. DragonFire is intended to engage UAVs and other aerial threats with precision at low per-shot cost.
