Three naval drones strike container ship CONTSHIP JET in Bulgaria's Black Sea EEZ

Published

On 28 October three unmanned surface vessels struck the container ship CONTSHIP JET (IMO 9348625, Greek-owned, Liberian-flagged) approximately 17–21 nautical miles off the Bulgarian coast near Cape Kaliakra, while the vessel was en route from Haifa to the Romanian port of Constanta. Bulgarian Navy forces and a French patrol aircraft observed the attack; a fire reportedly broke out and the ship listed to starboard before the crew abandoned it on life rafts. Bulgarian naval forces completed the rescue operation within under two hours. Bulgaria’s Defence Minister confirmed the incident. The attack follows the sinking of the dry cargo ship Alfa Watan on 6 October in the same area, suggesting a sustained pattern of naval drone strikes against commercial shipping in Bulgarian coastal waters.
