Taiwan fields 60,500 AI battlefield-triage kits to digitise casualty management at scale

Published

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense is procuring 60,500 AI-enabled battlefield triage sets for 2026–2028, sized for an estimated 20 percent casualty rate plus a 10 percent reserve in a peer conflict. Each kit includes an electronic neck tag for the wounded soldier, an E-PASS reader for medical staff, autonomous mesh communication nodes that operate without internet connectivity, and encrypted tablets. An AI layer aggregates real-time data on casualty status, medication stocks, evacuation routes and hospital capacity and pushes it to military hospitals and regional emergency centres, enabling resource pre-positioning before casualties arrive.
