Taiwan deploys US V-BAT and MQ-9B drones for maritime China surveillance

Shield AI and Taiwan’s AIDC delivered the first V-BAT drone to Taiwan’s Coast Guard on 13 October, with 12 units scheduled to follow for ship-based maritime reconnaissance and enforcement operations monitoring Chinese naval movements. Separately, Taiwan is conducting ongoing test flights of US-supplied MQ-9B Reapers from Hualien air base along the island’s eastern coast. Both mark the first operational deployments of these American platforms under Taiwanese command.
