Starlink proxy boards spoof GPS coordinates to defeat Russian terminal-session jamming

Published

Russian milblogger UAVDEV describes a multi-year electronic countermeasure cycle around Starlink terminals. Russian forces began jamming the internal GPS on Ukrainian terminals to block session initiation by denying position fix and PPS reference; Ukrainians countered by burying terminals in pits or wrapping them in chain-link fencing to maintain sky visibility while blocking ground-level jamming. They subsequently developed proxy boards that inject synthetic GPS coordinates and a fabricated PPS signal into the terminal, enabling session start without a real GPS fix. UAVDEV notes the same physical shielding approach was adopted by Iranian users during the 2022 protests.
