Satellite imagery suggests China's KJ-3000 AWACS is entering serial production

Published

Commercial satellite imagery from 5 October shows four KJ-3000 airborne early warning and control aircraft at Xi’an Aircraft Company — three near production buildings and one at the flight test centre — suggesting the programme may be transitioning to series manufacture. Built on the Y-20B airframe with domestically produced WS-20 engines, the KJ-3000 would reduce China’s dependence on the Russian Il-76–based KJ-2000. Confirmed specifications, planned fleet size and delivery timelines have not been officially released.
