Russian 'Varvar' autonomous kinetic drone interceptor confirmed in combat footage

Published

Footage of Russia’s Varvar kinetic interceptor has emerged from combat, with open-source data describing its parameters: up to 250 km/h speed, automatic target acquisition against wingspans of 1.5 m or more at up to 300 m in clear conditions, and a 2 km operational radius. After lock-on, guidance proceeds fully autonomously. The system is designed to cover the 0–2 km dead zone where conventional air defences are limited by elevation angles and reaction time; physical contact destroys the intercepted drone mid-air, detonating any warhead before it reaches the ground.
