Russian MESH drone C2 range doubles to 175 km via Belarusian relay infrastructure

Published

Russian drone control links using MESH modems now reportedly reach up to 175 km from the nearest ground station — approximately double the range recorded in 2025 — partly enabled by relay transmitters positioned in Belarus. British defence publication Calibre Defence, cited by Ukrainian analysts, described the broader network architecture: individual drones act as airborne signal repeaters, so a destroyed relay node can be bypassed by re-routing through adjacent aircraft without breaking the control link or requiring ground crews to advance. Operators note that range beyond 175 km degrades video quality and increases latency, but against fixed pre-planned targets the UAV can switch to autonomous terminal homing to compensate.
