Russian engineer: pre-war tank-to-robot programme has not adapted to dispersed battlefield demands

Published

A Russian engineering analyst reviewed the domestic programme converting conventional tanks into unmanned ground platforms, noting the initiative predates the war and retains a design philosophy suited to large concentrated armoured manoeuvre rather than the distributed, lower-cost approach the current conflict rewards. The analysis criticises the choice to simply shorten the existing tank gun rather than rethinking the armament for the role — arguing that a lower-velocity 152mm howitzer-calibre cannon would better match the close-assault requirements an unmanned assault platform actually faces.
