Russian cargo vessel fitted with WWII dazzle camouflage assessed as counter-AI-drone measure

Published

The Russian cargo ship ALEXANDER was photographed in Istanbul’s Haydarpaşa port bearing full geometric dazzle camouflage — a pattern last routinely applied to commercial vessels in the Second World War. Ukrainian OSINT analysts assess the scheme as an attempt to distort the vessel’s silhouette and defeat AI-guided maritime drone targeting systems, mirroring the zebra camouflage increasingly applied to Russian ground vehicles. The same analysts note effectiveness is likely to be limited against modern AI vision systems.
