Russian analysis: 10-inch FPV interceptor covers BUK-equivalent range for roughly $1,000

Published

A Russian UAV engineering channel challenges the claim that FPV-based air interception is prohibitively expensive. It argues that a 10-inch FPV fitted with a multi-band datalink (Hermes/Grasshopper class) and a night-vision imager runs approximately 70–80,000 rubles (~$900), plus around 10,000 rubles for a safety-fused warhead. At a claimed flight range of 20–30 km, the channel argues mobile FPV interception groups can cover an engagement envelope comparable to a BUK system — contrasted with the cost of small-arms fire, where hitting a moving airborne target at 600 m may consume 500+ rounds of 7.62×54 R at roughly $1 each with no guaranteed kill, especially as Ukrainian drones are now reinforced with aluminium wire mesh or ballistic-plate panels over control modules.
