Russia's Poseidon-armed submarine Khabarovsk begins first-ever sea trials

Published

The Russian nuclear submarine Khabarovsk — carrier for the Poseidon autonomous nuclear-armed underwater vehicle — put to sea for factory trials on 17 August, its first time underway since construction started in 2014. The vessel carries six Poseidon launch tubes; Poseidon itself is a nuclear-powered autonomous underwater drone with a claimed range up to 10,000 km. Citing Military Watch Magazine, the channel assesses the boat’s propulsion and acoustic-suppression systems as significantly ahead of existing analogues. After trials, it is destined for the Russian Pacific Fleet.
