Russia's extended-range UMPC-PD / UMPB-5 glide kits first used against Chornomorsk at 50+ km

Published

Ukrainian sources report the first confirmed use of Russian FAB bombs fitted with extended-range UMPC-PD and UMPB-5 glide kits against Chornomorsk port, 18 km from Odessa. The new variants are said to extend effective strike range beyond 50 km, allowing launch aircraft to remain outside the envelope of most Ukrainian air-defence systems — a capability step beyond the December 2025 debut near the Odessa oblast railway bridge at Zatoka. Targets in the Chornomorsk strike included port infrastructure, a drone storage warehouse, and the Stalkanat factory identified as a producer of long-range drones for Ukrainian forces. Russian analysts note these FAB-UMPC strikes are significantly cheaper than Oniks missiles, making repeat attacks against the same target set more sustainable.
