Russia-linked sabotage network behind arson at Romanian Carfil plant making Ukrainian drone warheads

Published

Romania’s SRI intelligence service has exposed a sabotage network responsible for a fire at a Carfil facility in Brașov on 14 September. Carfil S.A., a subsidiary of the state defence holding ROMARM, was supplying warheads for Ukrainian drones based on mortar and RPG-round designs. Two Belarusian nationals and one Ukrainian citizen resident in the EU are accused; investigators allege the cell was coordinated from Russia. Romania subsequently reinforced security around defence-industrial and critical infrastructure sites.
