Russia fields 'Volna Kupol Garant' EW system targeting Starlink uplinks

Published 19 August 2026

Colonel Cassad reports Russia has deployed a specialised electronic warfare complex called ‘Volna Kupol Garant’ aimed at disrupting Starlink by jamming the ground terminal–to–satellite uplink channel, rather than the conventional approach of attacking drone navigation or operator control links. Targeting the uplink is technically distinct — it requires disrupting a narrower, directionally aimed signal — and, if effective, would degrade Starlink-guided drone operations at the backhaul layer before the signal ever reaches the drone.
