Rheinmetall FV-014 loitering munition validated for launch from a moving truck

Published

July trials at the DLR national UAS test centre in Cochstedt confirmed the FV-014 can be successfully launched from a moving Rheinmetall HX truck, not only from a stationary platform. The system is packaged in a standard 20-foot ISO container capable of holding up to 18 munitions, specified for wheeled vehicles, fixed installations, and ships; ejection uses a rocket booster before the munition deploys folding wings and transitions to electric cruise. The customer for the trials and any associated contract were not disclosed. A Russian engineering commentator notes that container-based loitering-munition launches have been operationally routine for about two years and a 2,500-unit production run would not materially affect consumption rates at the Ukrainian front, while observing that the programme’s vector toward fully autonomous employment is the correct global direction of travel.
