PLA camouflage units drill rapid concealment timed against satellite overpass windows

Published 6 August 2026

A Ukrainian pro-drone channel reports that the PLA is emphasising dedicated camouflage units trained to arrive at exercise areas before main forces and depart last, deploying full concealment within minutes of satellite overpass windows. Chinese military doctrine cited in the report explicitly acknowledges that smoke screens are no longer sufficient against modern thermal sensors and trains simultaneously for satellite, drone, radar, and infrared reconnaissance — a set of adaptations that mirrors lessons drawn directly from observation of the Ukraine war.
