Multi-layer passive barriers stop all drones in Ukrainian raid on VK data centre, St Petersburg

Published

A Russian engineering analyst examined footage from a Ukrainian multi-drone attack on VK’s data centre on Vasilyevsky Island in St Petersburg and found that none of the attacking UAVs penetrated the building. The facility had been fitted with concentric passive barriers — steel structural frames, mesh netting and chain curtains around the perimeter and across the roof — which halted or deflected every incoming drone despite the large number employed. The analyst characterised the outcome as a replicable model for hardening critical infrastructure against kamikaze swarms, noting that passive physical layering requires no EW support and that many comparable facilities have no such protection.
