Mobile internet shutdown during alerts denies cell-tower navigation to strike drones

Published

A Ukrainian technical analysis explains the counter-drone rationale behind mobile internet disruptions during air-attack alerts: certain drone guidance systems can derive a positional fix from cellular base-station signal timing when GPS is jammed or unavailable. Disabling mobile data removes this navigation fallback, degrading accuracy for systems that rely on it. The measure reduces but does not eliminate the threat, as drones equipped with optical navigation or GPS-resistant receivers are unaffected.
