Maya decoy drone uses internal radio-lens to inflate radar cross-section and draw air-defence fire

Published

A Russian drone-development channel describes the Ukrainian Maya as built from blow-moulded high-density polyethylene — an unconventional aerospace material — and available in several variants. One carries only a programmed autopilot and an internal radio-reflective lens element specifically engineered to maximise radar cross-section and attract air-defence engagement, functioning as a low-cost decoy to saturate or redirect intercept assets. The channel notes the Maya is already clearly visible on radar without the lens, suggesting the enhanced-signature variant is optimised as a deliberate decoy rather than a fallback.
