Japan recovers 6 m central fuselage of crashed RQ-4B Global Hawk from 200–300 m depth in Sea of Japan

Published

Japan’s Air Self-Defence Force published imagery of a recovered 6 m central fuselage section — 1.6 m wide, 1.5 m tall — from the RQ-4B Global Hawk that crashed on 15 September approximately 50 km off Tottori Prefecture after losing communications during a flight. The section was raised from 200–300 m depth on 17 October; wing sections, the engine compartment and reconnaissance-system elements remain on the seabed, with recovery operations expected to continue through at least the end of October.
