Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force equips ~900 sailors with Israeli SMASH 3000 AI anti-drone rifle sights

Published

Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force has procured approximately 900 SMASH 3000 smart-shooter sights from Israeli firm SMARTSHOOTER, fitted to Howa Type 20 assault rifles for shipboard crews. The system uses optical sensors and targeting algorithms to track moving targets and determine the optimal firing moment, intended to improve close-in defence against small UAVs — an identified growing threat to naval vessels. The 3000 variant follows the same company’s SMASH 2000L adopted earlier by other militaries for ground forces.
