Iran formally requests Russia supply Geran-4 and Geran-5 reactive drones — Financial Times

Published 13 September 2026

Multiple Russian milblog channels relay a Financial Times report, citing unnamed sources, that Iran has requested Russia transfer Geran-4 and Geran-5 reactive drone variants for use against Israeli and US forces. Russian analysis notes the request is structurally plausible: Russia’s Alabuga plant capacity far exceeds Iran’s own production, and the Geran line’s demonstrated performance in Ukraine attracted Iranian attention. Rybar cautions that most previous Russia-Iran cooperation stories have proved to be information operations, but assesses this one as more credible given Iran’s depleted inventories and limited manufacturing scale.
