Houthis used Claude Code to replace engineering teams for autonomous drone guidance development

Published

A Ukrainian channel cites an Anthropic report stating that Houthi operators ran multiple concurrent Claude Code sessions as a substitute for a rocket-engineering group. Documented tasks included integrating open-source autopilot firmware into a phone-sized flight computer, writing navigation and control software, running 6-DOF trajectory simulations, and tuning flight-control algorithms via reinforcement learning. The operators compiled outputs into a standalone executable to continue development without AI access. Anthropic’s safety filters blocked many requests, but operators reportedly bypassed them by concealing the end objective and partitioning work across sessions; associated accounts were later suspended.
