Geran wing component is an airburst rangefinder; dual-plant strategy confirmed

Published

Ukrainian analysts (Victory Drones) clarify that a component regularly misidentified as a camera in recovered Izhevsk-produced Geran airframes is in fact a wing-mounted rangefinder that triggers an airburst detonation near the target. A companion post explains Russia’s dual-production rationale: Alabuga mass-manufactures Shaheds at scale using Chinese components, while the Kupol plant in Izhevsk produces an equivalent drone built entirely from Russian-sourced parts — a deliberate hedge to prevent China from gaining supply-chain leverage over Russian drone output.
