Geran-4 teardown: TI DSP and STM32 MCU identified, both have sanctions-proof alternatives

Published

Ukrainian analysis of recovered Geran-4 wreckage identified two key microcontrollers: a Texas Instruments TMS320F28335 (150 MHz C2000 DSP, used for real-time control of actuators and power electronics) and an STMicroelectronics STM32H743VIT6 (Cortex-M7 at 480 MHz, with onboard DSP instructions and extensive peripheral support suited to flight avionics). Russian engineering commentators counter that the TMS320 has had domestic Russian clones for years and has long been standard in Russian defence procurement, while the STM32H743 has functional Chinese equivalents from GigaDevice and Jihay. Their conclusion: a complete Western cutoff of either chip would not halt Geran production, as non-sanctioned substitutes are already available at scale.
