Geran-4 strikes SBU chief's office in Kyiv; attribution disputed between Russia and GUR

Published

A jet-powered drone struck the office of SBU director Aleksandr Poklad in central Kyiv on 4 September, injuring at least five personnel. Zelensky attributed the attack to a Russian Geran-4, and Russian milbloggers framed it as evidence of the jet variant’s terminal precision — capable of entering a specific office window mid-afternoon in the Ukrainian capital. Several Russian channels simultaneously raised an alternative explanation: a physical confrontation between GUR (military intelligence) and SBU two days earlier, the complete absence of an air-raid alert before detonation, the small apparent size of the incoming object, and its flat glide path are all inconsistent with a Geran approach and consistent with an FPV or comparable device launched from within the city. Both attributions remain unconfirmed.
