General Atomics NextGen: hybrid-electric flying-wing strike/ISR UAV targets 60-hour endurance

Published

General Atomics is developing NextGen, a large flying-wing strike and ISR platform using a hybrid propulsion system that combines a fuel engine and an electric drive, aimed at reducing fuel consumption, acoustic signature and thermal emissions. The company targets 60-plus hours of endurance while carrying both weapons and a full ISR suite; no flight-test data has been published to support the figure. NextGen will be substantially larger than the Gambit 4 stealth UAV programme, whose design will draw on NextGen development work.
